WORMS Preparing to Celebrate 25th Anniversary Milestone

Fan-made update to Worms: Armageddon, a series of digital badges, and Worms Rumble Steam beta kick off celebrations with a Holy Hand-Grenade of a bang.

July 17, 2020 – Team17 is kicking off the countdown to the 25th anniversary of the award-winning and beloved Worms series on 17th November. In addition to a collection of digital badges tracking the evolution of the worm design, a fan-driven update for Worms: Armageddon is now available with a raft of new features and updates, while the first beta is taking place for the recently announced Worms Rumble, which is scheduled for release on PlayStation consoles and PC later this year. Worms has been an award-winning success story since its debut in 1995, with instalments in the franchise launching on a range of platforms from the original PlayStation® to the most recent release, Worms W.M.D. on the current-generation of consoles and PC.

First released in 1999, Armageddon is beloved and recognised by the community as the quintessential instalment in the series. This week sees the launch of v3.8 of Worms: Armageddon, completed by fans, with dozens of new features and updates, including the ability to affect the game’s physics, the introduction of new CPU-controlled teams to online matches, and ‘Mapshot’ that allows players to start a new game on land decimated during a previous battle, as well as improved compatibility with Windows 10 and Linux platforms.

Kevin Carthew, Creative Director, Team17 said:
“I’m thankful to have been able to play some part in the Worms story over the past twenty years. Worms: Armageddon was among the first games I worked on; it’s incredible that members of the community are still delivering updates for it, and is a sure sign of its quality and the love that fans have for it. We’re currently writing the next chapter of the Worms story with Worms Rumble, and its beta test is currently underway. Tens of thousands of players have signed up to experience a fresh take on the series, and we’re receiving invaluable feedback that will help us deliver a great game.”

Nick Gomersall, Art Director, Team17 said:
Worms has been a part of my life, and the part of the lives of millions of gamers, for a quarter of a century, and it continues to go from strength to strength. The series forms the backbone of my career at Team17, and the evolution of the Worms design throughout the last 25 years really stands out – everybody has their Worm.”

Today’s announcement comes just a week after Team17 unveiled the next instalment in the series, Worms Rumble, which is scheduled for release on PlayStation® 5, PlayStation® 4, and PC later this year. A Steam closed beta of Worms Rumble is currently taking place and is running until 8am BST on Monday, 20th July.

PUBG Celebrates 70 Million Units Sold with the Newly Remastered Sanhok Map for Season 8

Update 8.1 welcomes players back to the jungle with a reimagined map, the Loot Truck, a new Ranked Mode season, and more

AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS – July 14, 2020 – PUBG Corporation, pioneer of the battle royale genre, today announced that its trailblazing title, PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS (PUBG), has sold over 70 million units to date. To commemorate this milestone, the latest update will return to the jungles of Sanhok with PUBG Season 8. The once familiar jungle destination is now an overgrown abandoned paradise that has been remastered to be leaner, meaner, and more deadly than ever before! Season 8 will release for PC via Steam on 22 July and 30 July for Xbox One, PlayStation®4, and Stadia, the new generation gaming platform from Google.

When survivors drop into Sanhok, they’ll discover that almost every structure, tree, rock, and material in the map has been rebuilt from the ground up. Using data and player feedback, many locations have had extensive design and art upgrades. Popular locations, such as Boot Camp, Ruins, Pai Nan, Khao, and Quarry have all received major updates. For those keen on exploring, new locations and hidden gems can be found around the island, including a new tourist town “Getaway”, and bootcamp “Airfield.” From the Ruins to the Cave, Sanhok has been updated to increase its visual fidelity, balance, and performance.

Alongside the Sanhok Remaster, Update 8.1 is full of new and thrilling additions, including:

  • The Loot Truck: Driving the roads of Sanhok are autonomous cargo transports that offer players a brand-new way to gear up. As these trucks take damage, they will drop some loot and continue on their way. Players persistent enough to destroy the truck will be rewarded with an even bigger cache of weapons and gear for their squad.
  • Confiscated Weapons: Players who take down the Loot Truck will be rewarded with fully customised weapons. For the first time ever in PUBG, players can pick-up weapons that come with pre-installed attachments and unique skins.
  • Improved Jerry Cans: These explosive bundles of joy are making their revised debut. Pour gas on the ground to set a fiery trap or toss the whole thing at an enemy and light it up.
  • New Ranked Season: A new Ranked season begins with Update 8.1. The season brings a much-requested change to scoring, with Ranked Point acquisition now taking team placement into account. Additionally, Vikendi has been added to the Ranked map pool.
  • Survivor Pass: Payback: Accompanying the latest season is the newest Survivor Pass, which gives players a large amount of new skins to earn as they explore the forgotten paradise of Sanhok.

Survivors can preview Update 8.1 with the PC test server on 15 July and the console test server on 20 July, prior to Season 8’s official launch on 22 July for PC via Steam and 30 July for Xbox One, PS4, and Stadia. For more information on Update 8.1, please view the full patch notes here.
